    <title>MSSQL restore fails after upgrading to GFI Backup 2011</title>
    <description>
     <div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

Issue Encountered

When restoring a backup from the Administration Console, it fails with the error:

Can't find dbDIFF

Technical Information

This occurs due to a difference in task attributes between different versions of GFI Backup making previous backup jobs unuseable.

Solution

After upgrading the version of GFI Backup, MSSQL Automatic backup tasks need to be run again before they can be restored. The first backup task which is run after the upgrade creates a full backup.</p>

    <title>Error backing up GPT disks or partitions</title>
    <description>
     <div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
      <p>

Issue Encountered

When backing up GPT disks or partitions, you encounter the following error:

ERROR: Drive is in use and could not be backed up. It is recommended to close all files and lock the drive. GFI Backup can be configured to lock drives by default from Settings - Backup/Restore Settings.

Technical Information

This happens due to a failure in VSS when determining the Volumedevice GUID on a GPT disk.

Solution

The GPT disk or partition needs to be locked to create the backup. This can be done from the Administration Console -&amp;gt; Settings -&amp;gt; Backup/Restore Settings, and check the option Automatically lock partitions during disk imaging if VSS is not working.

    <title>Error backing up to tape</title>
    <description>
     <div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
      <p>

Issue Encountered

When backing up to tape, you encounter the following error:

ERROR: User intervention required: The free space on the inserted tape media in device 4 millimeter DAT drive is only 8.60GB, while the required space is 11.66GB. Please insert a media with enough free space, and run the task again.

Technical Information

This happens when the size of the source being backed up exceeds the remaining size on tape.

Solution

Ensure that the free space on the tape being used is greater than the size of the source being backed up.
