    <title>Error when uninstalling GFI Backup: Could not open Install.Log file'</title>

Issue Encountered:

When trying to uninstall GFI Backup, the following error message appears:

Could not open Install.Log file'

Solution: 

To resolve the error message mentioned above, please perform any one of the following recommendations. 


  Go to the GFI Backup 2009 - Home Edition installation folder (&amp;lt;Program FilesGFIGFI Backup 2009 - Home Edition)&amp;gt;. Drag the file &quot;install.log&quot; over &quot;unwise.exe&quot; with the mouse and release the mouse button. The Uninstaller will start running once the mouse button is released.</p>

  Change the install.log path by performing the following:
  


  
    Browse to the GFI Backup 2009  Home Edition folder, by default &amp;lt;GFIGFI Backup 2009  Home Edition&amp;gt;
    
    Copy the install.log' file onto your desktop

    <title>New Backup/Sync Task Wizard does not close when clicking on the Finish' button and no backup/sync tasks can be created</title>

Issue Encountered:

At the end of the New Backup/Sync Task Wizard, clicking the Finish' button does close the Wizard and no backup/sync tasks are created.

More Information:

In order for GFI Backup to create a backup/sync task, the user which is creating the task must have read and write privileges on the GFI Backup folder , which by default is located in &amp;lt;Program FilesGFIGFI Backup 2009  Home Edition&amp;gt;

Solution: 

Perform the following procedure to modify the NTFS security permissions on the GFI Backup folder:


  Open Microsoft Windows Explorer
  
  Browse to the GFI Backup folder, by default &amp;lt;C:Programs filesGFI&amp;gt;
  
  Right click on the GFI Backup 2009  Home Edition' folder and select Properties'
  
  Click on the Security' tab.
  
  Ensure that the logged on user that is running GFI Backup has read and

    <title>GFI Backup is unable to backup open files. What might be the problem?</title>

GFI Backup is failing to backup open files. 

More Information: 

GFI Backup is able to backup open files using the Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS), which is part of Microsoft Windows. Further information on how VSS works can be found at the following link:

Solution: 

If GFI Backup is failing to backup open files, this might indicate that there is a problem with the Volume Shadow Copy Service. The following steps are suggestions to ensure that your VSS on GFI Backup is running correctly.

The following are the requirements for Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS): 


  Microsoft Windows XP with SP1 installed. All subsequent versions of Microsoft Windows include VSS. 
  
  32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) version of Microsoft Windows installed</p>

<p>Note: GFI Backup does not support backing up open files using VSS on Itanium 64-bit Intel microprocessors</p>

  The files you want to backup must reside on a NTFS formatted partition. An internal FAT32 drive can be backed uponly if you also have an NTFS partition available. 
  
  The files you want to backup must reside on local disks (or external hard drives that report themselves to Microsoft Windows as local disks). </p>
